|In a concert depicting love and loss, and the movement from darkness to light, Vancouver USA Singers will present some of the most beautiful music ever written. The music for this concert will include Lux Aeterna, Requiem with data sonification, and The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass. Written by Morten Lauridsen,|
Lux Aeterna is a stunning choral meditation on light eternal. Written the year his mother died, this work was spontaneously played on radio stations across the country on the day 9/11 happened. One listener wrote that the Lux Aeterna was “a rock in my sea of grief.” Joshua Clausen’s newly composed Requiem with data sonification, first performed in the spring of 2018, is a compelling new work. It was written “for the victims of American mass shootings, their families, and friends.”
The second half of the concert is The World Beloved, a Bluegrass Mass by Carol Barnett. This joyful choral work is accompanied by a Bluegrass band. Several years ago our choir had the privilege of singing this at Carnegie Hall with the composer in attendance. Please join us in this concert of beautiful contemporary pieces.
