|The concert version of Meredith Willson’s Music Man provides all the script, music, characterizations, and fun of the original musical. Only the scenery and props are limited.
This family-friendly show tells the story of a traveling salesman in the early 1900’s (Professor Harold Hill, played by Ryan Allen), and his stop in River City, Iowa. Harold makes his living conning communities into buying instruments, books, and uniforms for a kids’ band, guaranteeing to teach the kids to play, even though he “can’t tell a bass drum from a pipe organ!” Before he can skip town this time, however, he gets stuck in River City when he falls in love with Marian, the town librarian (played by Meredith Stone and Nicole Rayner, in turn.)
Well-loved songs such as “76 Trombones”, “Good Night, My Someone”, “The Wells Fargo Wagon”, and “Pick a Little, Talk a Little”, make the play in turn warm, funny, and romantic. Make sure you get your tickets and get in on the fun!
This concert performance of Meredith Willson’s The Music Man will be directed by Jana Hart, and accompanied by Laurie Chinn.
But wait, there’s more!
2018 VUSAS Youth Scholarship winner Olivia Alfson will be singing “Burn” from Hamilton at both performances!
